Well, I might sound like a jerk but.. I don't think humanity has ever cared if unknown people die. Sure they might be all "man, that sucks", but it's just really difficult for people to care about something they have no relation with. Every second people somewhere die and we know this. It's just a question of where, when and how. I wouldn't say human life has more value than any other life here on Earth. I see death as an inevitable thing in life, and the only reason to mourn is the feel of loss. That requires a bond of some kind, something people have only with a few select people.
