My essential programs list.

8 posts in this topic

For my windows XP system:

-AVG 8.0 antivirus

-Firewall (sunbelt personal firewall, free)

-WinRAR

-GIMP or photoshop, (sorry, I know it is a sin, but I DO prefer photoshop. classes make things easy for me)

-windows live messenger or meebo.com

-internet browser (IE, firefox, or google chrome)

-microsoft office or open office

-windows media player

All of these are or can be gotten for free. All of these have been gotten for free by me.

To me, I cannot feel comfortable on a system without these programs. They allow so much more to be done.

Yeah...I think it's best to just have two OS's...Ubuntu and Vista. You get the best of both worlds. Avoid the bills with Ubuntu, since it's mainly all open source and than when needed just reboot and kick on the ol' Vista...

For Ubuntu, my Essential Programs List consists of::

Anjuta IDE

Firestarter

Pidgin IM (Or as many know it, Miranda IM)

Firefox, ofcourse

Trigger

netstat

chkrootkit

rkhunter

gcc

airodump

aircrack:: I believe thats about it for Ubuntu...

Windows

AIM

Firefox

Windows Media Player

uTorrent

SpyBotS&D

k7 AV/firewall

Macromedia Fireworks 8

doesn't IE 7 track what you do on the internet? I hear Microsoft was going to institute something along those lines...I mean I know anything you do on the internet can be tracked, but for the most part they don't really care. But either way, Firefox is superior in my opinion, and more secure.
