As some of you are aware i'm a computer technician for a living. I was wondering what some of the programs were that you use to keep your computer running at its peak.

I'm usually fixing computers all week long and this is what I use that generally fixes most of their problems. I use File Hippo as a download source if available. I've found its twice as fast as the major download sites such as download.com for example.

First if they don't have any anti-virus i'll install AVG free edition. Link: http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus/

I'll then install CCleaner: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

&

Ad-Aware: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ad-aware/

&

a-squared: http://www.filehippo.com/download_asquared/

&

Rogue Remover: http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover/f...-free-setup.exe

I generally run CCleaner first and then Ad-Aware. Followed by a-squared and Rogue Remover. Those programs have made me a lot of money throughout the years.  ;)

What seems to be their claim to fame is graphic design and audio stuff. Plus they are much harder to mess up operating system wise than Windows.

This is to be debated but its been said that if it wasn't for the ipod, apple wouldn't even be making computers any longer.

I don't know one way or the other myself. Some PC magazine said yes and some said no. Right before the ipod they came out with those fruity looking Macs that didn't do so well.

If you run ccleaner and ad-aware on a semi regular basis your computer will only get a quarter of the problems it would then if you didn't run them. I used to show people how to run them after I was done fixing their computers. Then I quickly smartened up and realized that was a bad idea. The people I showed rarely had problems thus they rarely called me and that doesn't equal $$$ ;)

When I have jobs, I install a few of the programs you listed.  However, for me personally, I run Linux and therefore don't have to worry of such matters.  ;)

We had that linux thread on the old board. Its what prompted me to finally try it out. Out of all the versions I tried I think my favorite was Ubuntu with the KDE graphical environment instead of GNOME. Better known as Kubuntu.

I run Fedora with GNOME.  I plan to upgrade/switch to something else sometime soon.  Probably Debian, maybe Arch.  Anyway, glad you finally checked it out.  =D

I use unlocker and kill every virus in safe mode. File. By. File.

Hardcore.

Unlocker? That sounds like a variant of Killbox. The last computer I had to fix I had to use that method. Took me hours.  :-

Then I was right in thinking that its another variant of Killbox. Though i'm not sure you can edit the files with Killbox.

Hey I use SpyBot S&D, and it works great, just set it up to run when you're sleeping, I also defrag my computer everynight, also when sleeping and use K7 Total Security for enhanced firewall protection and anti-virus, these three things combined keep my laptop running at peak condition, basically like new, and I DL alot of shit.
